OK, I confess, it took me until New Year’s Day to start to look through the last year for pictures. Ooops.
I found it really hard to choose. There weren’t many pictures that I think are really good, looking back, that I also really like. This photo, taken at the Hoppings in June and originally postedback in June, isn’t great technically, but I really like the greying sky and the lights. It seems to capture the energy at the Hoppings quite well.
Other photos I really liked looking back, in no particular order, were:
Civic Centre Tower
Cows in the City
Theatre Royal
Christmas lights in the Daytime
Castles in the sky
The second beacon
I also want to give an honorary mention to this reflection shot - which I don’t count as it was taken in 2009! - and the New Year’s Eve shot, which seemed to be a real favourite but was only posted yesterday!
I hadn’t realised quite how patchy service had got this year. We hadn’t missed a day for a long time before I lost my baby in November 2009. It’s taken me a long time to start to feel normal again. I’m still not, normal again that is, but I’m closer than I’ve been in a long time. And part of it… well, it might help if you click here and read a post from a couple of months back about what’s going on at my other blog. I know some people have seen already. But… please don’t get too excited? I’m really scared and it’s hard to be positive after what happened last time around.
Anyway. Thank you all for your patience, and I look forward to 2011 being a damned sight better than 2010 :)

Hi Beth, great selection and I think my favourite of those is Castles in the Sky - but I’m sticking with my favourite for the year being your New Year’s Eve shot!
I’ve skimmed through your blog post that you’ve linked to above; please do try to be positive. I might comment further on your blog page.
OK thanks for it all… we love your work. Dave x
Let me give you some more praise Beth.
As Alf (and others) has previously said, it’s the quirkiness and wit of your shots that is great. There are loads of blogs etc showing technically brilliant photos: moody sunsets; soft-focus river Tyne shots etc… all very fine and enjoyable, but I love (and quite frankly, envy!) your ability to spot something a little different. Everyone reading this knows what I mean, so I need not go on.
Thanks.
Thanks Dave. I really do appreciate all that. I’m blushing a bit over here!!!!! ;)
I’m more positive about what’s going on than I sometimes seem over there, but it is really hard - there were no signs that anything had gone wrong last time, which means that the lack of anything like that isn’t reassuring at all. Oh well - only another 24 weeks to go…..!!!
Beth, I am so pleased that you are pregnant again. My granddaughter had a similar experience and it was devastating for her and for us all but now I have the most wonderful great granddaughter. She is nine months old and has just said the most magical word in the English language - ganda. All right it’s not perfect but it’ll do for me. I have my fingers crossed (and everything else I can think of) for you and D. I came on here tonight to comment on the photograph but I am too excited about the baby. Have faith is all I can say.
Thank you for sharing with us your most wonderful news, Beth and D…congratulations…what a fabulous New Year blessing! I send you both best wishes and postive thoughts for the remainder of your pregancy…like Al said, a little faith goes a long, long way. xoxo
Indeed - have faith Beth. Well said Alf, and nice to hear of your great-granddaughter!
