This building is in Heaton. I used to live right round the corner from it, and I don’t ever remember noticing the lettering around the top.
For those whose eyesight is not what it used to be, it reads:
‘Newcastle upon Tyne Co-operative Society Limited. 1892. Newcastle upon Tyne Co-operative Society Limited. Heaton Road Branch. Registered Office Newgate Street’.

I worked in this pub once. Just for a month or so. It was in 1995 and the pub was called Joe Wilsons at the time. On the other side of the bar most nights was a lad, J, who soon became one of my best friends and still is now. And a little while later, D started working there. One night, summer 1996, I went in and saw him behind the bar.
Seeing him for the first time was like walking into a brick wall.
It was summer 2000 before we were finally both ready to make a go of it, after a couple of false starts. But we’ve been together ever since.
The pub’s changed names a few times since then. It became the Stout Fiddler first, then Moot. And a few months back, it became the Kings Manor.
Five years ago today, we got married. Tonight, we’re having a party to celebrate.
Happy anniversary, D. Love ya.
Also - this is Newcastle Daily Photos’s ONE THOUSANDTH POST! Thank you all for dropping by and commenting. Cassandra and I love this site and love celebrating the best of Newcastle - but it wouldn’t be the same without all of you :o)

This was taken on Wednesday. Daffodils, sunshine and people sitting on the grass (look carefully through the trees, they’re there, honest!)… yep, spring is definitely here.
