Gosh, this brings back loads of memories.
When I was a kid there was another Clough’s on Chillingham Road between Warton Terrace and Simonside Terrace. Sadly, last time I drive down that way it was a tattoo place.

wow I used to visit this littel gem of a shop when I was a student there - now 10+ years ago!! It waqs fab - very cheap and such a hugh selection and we used to have a ball every Sunday and go there for our weekly treats! Hope it stays like that forever
