Someone asked a week or so back about whether Monument was lit up this year and I said no. I was wrong!!!!!

January 3, 2011 - Sign holder

There are usually quite a few people out holding signs like this on the streets of Newcastle, but I felt particularly sorry for this one, out as he was in the driving snow. Poor guy.

January 2, 2011 - Two picture Sunday - model of Newcastle

If you come out of Central Station, cross Neville Street and stop, you’ll find this model of Newcastle.

It’s not entirely accurate - as you can see, it’s on levels rather than a slope - but it’s pretty good. I just wish Earl Grey was standing on his Monument like he should be.

Of course, I’d also like to know why we appear to be sitting directly over Hell - isn’t that red glow unnerving?

January 1, 2011 - January Theme Day - Photo of the Year 2010

OK, I confess, it took me until New Year’s Day to start to look through the last year for pictures. Ooops.

I found it really hard to choose. There weren’t many pictures that I think are really good, looking back, that I also really like. This photo, taken at the Hoppings in June and originally postedback in June, isn’t great technically, but I really like the greying sky and the lights. It seems to capture the energy at the Hoppings quite well.

Other photos I really liked looking back, in no particular order, were:

Civic Centre Tower
Cows in the City
Theatre Royal
Christmas lights in the Daytime
Castles in the sky
The second beacon

I also want to give an honorary mention to this reflection shot - which I don’t count as it was taken in 2009! - and the New Year’s Eve shot, which seemed to be a real favourite but was only posted yesterday!

I hadn’t realised quite how patchy service had got this year. We hadn’t missed a day for a long time before I lost my baby in November 2009. It’s taken me a long time to start to feel normal again. I’m still not, normal again that is, but I’m closer than I’ve been in a long time. And part of it… well, it might help if you click here and read a post from a couple of months back about what’s going on at my other blog. I know some people have seen already. But… please don’t get too excited? I’m really scared and it’s hard to be positive after what happened last time around.

Anyway. Thank you all for your patience, and I look forward to 2011 being a damned sight better than 2010 :)
