I went out to the coast this morning. One of my friends lives in Cullercoats and she’s been telling me about how amazing the sunrise is over the sea. And she was right.
It was snowing when I left home, and it didn’t stop until well after sunrise. It was an amazing morning.

I woke up very early, so opened the curtains for a look see - same sky but the sun was so low down it was shining through the hedgerow. Moses came to mind. (Burning Bush).
I check in here and lo and behold, the sun rising over the sea. Thank you Beth.
And the solitary figure says it all.
great shot beth, the colour and composition are spot on - the figure mirroring the lighthouse is a lovely touch. one gripe, if you straighten it so the horizon is horizontal it’ll be perfect, it would contrast the diagonal line where the sea meets the sand.
Brilliant Shot
Gorgeous photograph…WOW! You captured the rising sun perfectly and the glow on the sand and in the sky is wonderful. Must have been amazing to have been there observing this in person….Heaven on Earth!
Amazing shot…makes me sad…I miss being there…
Superb..! Jealous, but grateful, that you got there to capture it. WOW..!
Fantastic picture! Wish I could have been there with you. Last time I was in Cullercoats its was a dull day!
that’s a keeper!
Lost for words! Simply stunning!
Thanks all.
Glad you like it Mrs K.
CGP, I can’t believe I didn’t notice that. I will blame the fact I was being snowed on at the time and was VERY cold. Very annoying though!
Thanks Gordon :)
Ash, it was worth getting out of bed and hanging around getting snowed on and freezing! Glad you like the pic.
Jorgelina, glad you like the shot. I hope you can visit sometime.
Mike D, again, it was worth getting out of bed and venturing out into the cold…
Martin, I’ve had some great morning shots there recently!
Bob B, thanks :)
Alf, thanks. Glad you like it.
This is quite spectactular. A contender for “shot of the year” theme day?
I don’t know Daniel, I do still have a yen for this pic…
Wonderful pic. As someone who lives on the coast a little bit further up at Whitley Bay I see the sunrise quite a lot but never ever get bored with it. I’m a writer and most mornings I take a short walk to clear out the cobwebs and figure out what I need to be doing later in the day. This process of daily renewal (the sunrise) is just flat out inspiring.
I have a series on my blog called Street Life which chronicles the changing the view throughout the year.
Excellent pic B! Very well done!
Hard to chose, Beth, very hard indeed.
Absolutely superb!
