I presume the walk only covers the exterior of the pubs so you wouldn’t know if the huge chair still holds pride of place in the Duke of Wellington. It was reputed to belong to a former landlord, William Campbell who stood 6′4″ tall and weighed 52 stones and he was only 22 years old. Sadly it didn’t do him much good as he died at that age.
Oh my, I never thought I would see a picture of my pub which I used to visit at least twice a week, held meetings there, got the Landlord to apply for a licence to cover a charity event and he donated all the profits to help us buy one of the first kidney machines for the RVI. Oh the memories came flooding back.
Is that where the tour guides tell you the ancient story of where an incredibly fat bloke died on the 1st floor and they couldn’t get him out except through the top window?
Alf - we didn’t go into any of the pubs, but we stood outside and got all the stories! And yes, we heard that one, but we were told he was 26 years old, 54 stone with a 76 inch chest and 96 inch shoulders, and that just before his death a doctor in London said he was in pretty good health - fairly active with a normal appetite!
I’ve found my notes from the tour now :)
mrs k - i’m glad to make you happy!
Dave - yep :)
Mike - as Alf mentioned above, yes :) And Mrs K, yes too!

It looks very well maintained and the flower pots are a great embellishment!

Mrs K,

I don’t know about the tour, but the incredibly fat bloke place was in half way up or down (depending on which way you entered High Bridge.
I do like pubs.
Leif - I’ve not been in, but I want to now!
