As I said yesterday, I finally made it into the new City Library.
It’s great. I’d highly recommend that those who live in Newcastle visit. I worked in there for a while last Wednesday afternoon and really enjoyed my visit.

about Newcastle City Library ... posted by Beth
Hellooo, not posted for a while…
Yes I’ve been! It reminds me of Central Square. Visited all the floors, and the viewing gallery. Couldn’t get into the new Stewart & Co Cafe as it was full, to get my free tea/coffee when buying a piece of cake! The self-service machines are great, I think they must use RF tags in the books.
I also went to the Great North Museum which opened up as well, that was excellent. I particulaly liked the Roman and Egyptian exhibits.

Afternoon Beth,
Bizarrely enough I went here for the first time just last Saturday. It is a very pleasant building, and like Mike I visited the observation gallery which was excellent; they have some pink swivelly chairs up there; my mate who was with me said they were the sort of chair that a Bond villian would sit in whilst stroking a white cat!
There seems to be much fewer books than the old library but I might be wrong. I suppose the emphasis is on electronic resources.
Cheers for now, Dave
Wow, it looks majestic! I bet it’s easy to get lost in there. Ar least I would. Love the idea of pink swivelly chair in a library! Ciao. A.
Viewing gallery?! I missed that! Will have to get myself back there.
Mike, I never went to the Hancock Museum. Will have to visit the Great North Museum for sure!
Dave, will have to try and find out about whether there really are less books. You’ve got me intrigued!
It is great Antonella :)
Yeah Beth, let me know if you do find out if they’ve not actually housed all the books from the old library! The old one seemed to have much more. They recently rebuilt Gosforth Library - again a nice job, but it too has fewer books than the old one.
I’m loving the new library, it’s become a regular weekly lunchtime trip already! (only 5 mins walk from work, so it’s a no-brainer really!)
Will do Dave.
Mo, I’m jealous! I miss working right in the middle of town.
