A clever all rounder was our Joseph. He was apprenticed to a pharmacist and became a partner in Mawson, Swan and Morgan, a manufacturing chemist, which survived until the early 70s in what is now Waterstones at the top of Grey Street. Whisper it though, he was born in Sunderland.
I am sure that Corbitt Coins was originally in Grey Street too.
