Left over from Baltic Quays week - this was originally set up for Saturday but I changed them round.
The pictures I see of the Sage are normally much of a muchness, and a little dull. But it’s a really interesting building and looks totally different from nearly every angle. I love this one.

I may have missed something, but what is the Sage?
This photo got my attention right off…striking, to say the least! Especially with that cloud bank behind the very unusual building!
Hi Jacob - the Sage is, to quote from their website, ‘an international home for music and musical discovery, bringing about a widespread and long-term enrichment of the musical life of the North of England. Our inclusive approach enables all our performance, learning and participation programmes to be constantly inspired and supported by each other.’ The building is designed to be acoustically perfect, or as close as possible.
This and this are the same building. It’s amazing how different it can look!
Nice; it looks like an eye doesn’t it?!
I hated it as I watched them build it and my grandchildren and I called it the “Fly’s Eyes”. It wasn’t until one winter evening stopped at the traffic lights at the law courts waiting to pull out on to the Quayside that I realised what a beautiful building it is. It was sunset and the domes reflected the reddish light and it was stunning. It looks different from every angle and in the varying light. I was even more impressed when I finally visited the place. Now when friends and family visit from the South we sit on the concourse and catch up with the news while gazing on the beauties of the Tyne and Newcastle and watching the world go by. A few weeks ago we were even treated to, what we thought was a raid by the SAS. A man dressed completely in black came abseiling down the glass dome but it was only the window cleaner.
That glittering streak on the left hand side of the roof definitely looks cool. A detailed cut of that part might be worth a try.
Weird Dave, I hadn’t noticed that!
Alf - nearly everyone hated it before it was finished didn’t we? and hardly anyone still hates it now! I’ve never visited yet but will have to get round to it soon.
Daniel - more photos will follow, but I try not to post too many of any one thing :)
