  We watched the old buildings being destroyed and the new road and bridge being built. We missed being able to walk into Manors station from the bus station in three minutes and now had to allow 20 minutes. But it was supposed to be progress. The car was king and it still is.

  To be a pedant… that’s not the A1. The A1’s a couple of miles to the right, circling the city. That bridge sits over the A167(M) ring road, if my memory serves. I used to walk over it to get from the Manors car park into town when car parking was but 10p/hour.

  I still remember the “bubbly” tarmac on the bridge.
