Which idiot painted the ‘green twiddly bit’ red - grrrrrrrrrrrrr. The twiddly bit went with the Rolex sign that has been there for as long as I can remember.
I love the chimes on this clock and they also keep the faces clean.
Mrs. K, where is the red twiddly bit…at the very top? It is so fun to say “twiddly bit”
The gold clock is very wonderful and the chimes very memorable! If I could buy a Rolex watch….I’d like to purchase it here!
my mam went on a date back in the 60s (long before she met my dad) and arranged to meet the young man under the northern goldsmith’s clock. they both waited at different clocks. i suppose i wouldn’t be here if the date had been a success. thanks northern goldsmith!

Love the building design here.
As a kid I used to see this clock and building every Saturday morning on my way to my Grandparents. I never forgot it.

Heather, when I saw this pic (and before I saw your comment!), I thought something similar.
I used to stare up at this clock on a Saturday whilst waiting for a bus with my dad on New Bridge Street.
Of course in kid world, this clock is much, much further away! I loved the chimes - still do.
Good point about the twiddly bit Mrs K - sacrilege!
I obviously haven’t been looking up enough because it has been like that since, at least, 2003 and I have never noticed it before. Sheer vandalism.
Oh now that has upset me Mrs K. We should complain!
Great building, isn’t it?
You all know she has a twin Sister don’t you?
Mike
??
Yup but I ain’t telling
She has a secret twin Sister who doesn’t get the limelight as much as she does!
Her sister is just as graceful and beautiful! and she is on the junction of Clayton Street and Westgate Road…
Mike and Mrs K… hey you’re right! I forgot all about her!
That’s it though isn’t it; the bit of town is out of the limelight a bit…
