Australian company, Bambuco, used 20 tons of bamboo to create a massive temporary bridge between the Tyne Bridge and Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
The eighth Newcastle/Gateshead bridge or Bambuco Bridge was a temporary outdoor sculpture in the form of a simple suspension bridge spanning the River Tyne, England, made entirely from bamboo wood. The public art was designed and built for the SummerTyne festival, part of the NewcastleGateshead initiative.
The bridge was on display over the festival’s opening weekend – though crossing was strictly reserved for the skilled Bambuco team!
