February 9, 2009 - Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year was on 26th January, but Newcastle Council likes to hold the celebrations on a Sunday - presumably so it can close Stowell Street for the parade without causing too much chaos. But there was a football match on last Sunday, so the celebrations took place yesterday.

I waited 45 minutes for the parade in the freezing cold - but it did mean that I was near the front when it started.

Unfortunately, my camera’s broken. I’m not sure what’s wrong. I have enough pics from various places today to keep posting for a while and I can always use the camera on my mobile, but it’s possible that posting might become sporadic. I’ll keep you up to date.

Do you know, I’d completely forgotten that was on yesterday….not that it made any difference, we were iced in at the coast so no chance I could have got there anyway. Thanks for taking me there by proxy!

Shame about your camera, but I bet you have loads of pictures salted away….(but email me if I can help by contributing the odd photo in times of need!)

Bad luck re: camera.

Perhaps you can treat using the mobile camera as a kind of artistic discipline? You know, like living on bread and water.

Glad to oblige Mo!

I keep meaning to do a ‘guest photo’ week - could be an opportune time now my camera’s broken! Keep your eyes open :)

Steve, that made me laugh! Today’s photos were taken with my camera - maybe not perfect, but not bad really.

Beautiful photos, so cheerful and colourful …and with the stadium in the background. Sorry about the camera. Have problems with mine too. That’s why I take photos with my camera phone, it’s not the best but I’m addicted to it now. It is handy and not so noticeable as a digital camera. Good luck! Ciao. A.

There you go then! You can be a mobile monk.

Only time I got famous was sitting down to a venti tea at Starbucks, stubbing the base of the table, and sloshing tea everywhere.

Cheeks rising (this ol’ phrase refers to their redness, and not my backside as I leapt up from the tide of tea), I looked up to find someone on the table opposite filming the whole thing on their mobile. Haven’t checked youtube yet, but…

Any other Newcastle happy-slap moments out there?
