The Lloyds TSB Building in Byker. I never noticed this building much when I went to the gym in the East End Pool. It’s amazing though, isn’t it?

Love this building, so un-British! There are so many hidden gems in NC! Why do you think banks always get the nicest buildings? One of the nicest building in Coney Street in York housed a bank until a few years ago when it was taken over by Starbuck!!! Lol. Ciao. A.

When I was a child (in the 1970’s) there was (what I can only describe as a round structure about the size of 2 telephone boxes) right outside of this bank on the street. I have no idea what it was for??? I dont know if anybody used to be in there (I hardly think Shields Road was big on tourist information!!!) My husband reckons it was some sort of police box. If anybody can remember it and knows what it was Id love to know. The building is lovely, one of the few left, even with the regeneration it is still an ugly road.

Light was gorgeous that day.
And another great clock tomorrow Mo! :o)
Antonella I know the very Starbucks you mean :o) It’s an interesting question actually, all the lovely cafes these days (and some of the trendy bars) are in old bank buildings. Maybe they had the money to invest to build them?! Who knows.
VK I’ve never seen reference to that! If I ever find out I’ll let you know. It’s getting better isn’t it, but no it’s not exactly the most beautiful road in Newcastle.
