The infamous Shoe Tree in Armstrong Park. Are there any other quirky places in Newcastle that you guys know of?

Do you know I have never actually seen that tree. I have read a book inspired by it though, called The Taxi Driver’s Daughter by Julia Darling. It’s fabtastic. You should read it if you haven’t :) And I should go and find the tree :)
Can’t think of anywhere else at the mo but I’m SURE there are places. I will have a think :)

B, it’s more of a “shoe alley” now. I’ve heard of the book and plan to read it as soon as i get my hands on a copy. :)

It is funny how so many places have a shoe tree! I live in a ski town in Colorado and we have one of our own.

Beck, there’s not really much of a story behind it, although legend tells that when students got out of exams they threw their shoes up to celebrate… then another legend says that lovers we walking through the park that could not be together in public so they threw their shoes up so that at least that part of them could be together forever. It’s mostly just drunks and those who want to belong that contribute now. City council has cut a lot of them down so there are not as many as there used to be.
