December 28, 2008 - Eldon Square Bus Station

Eldon Square bus station, Newcastle, UK

It’s been open about 18 months now, but to the best of my knowledge there’s never been a picture posted of the new bus station at Eldon Square at Newcastle Daily Photo. The bus concourse that used to run under Eldon Garden has been shut for a while now and this has replaced it. At the back it links through St George’s Way into the Eldon Square extension that comes out at the other side of Old Eldon Square, directly into Starbucks and Waitrose (here’s a press release about Waitrose opening) and near Strada and Wagamama. You can also come out next to the entrance to John Lewis.

Links about the bus station here and here.

God! I remember the old underground terminal at Eldon Square. I felt very unsafe there as it was poorly lit.
All these new ventures in Newcastle make me want to come back badly. I love new shops and buildings, and I feel as if I’m missing out on an exciting city. :/ But I can’t come back as my health won’t allow it. *sigh*
Newcastle has always been an extremely interesting city to be in and I wanna see it again. Waaaah! ;)

Love Eldon Square, Beth! All the shops I need are there and then Starbucks and Waitrose …and my new discovery Wagamama. I could it there every day. Any news about climbing Earl Grey??? Ciao. Antonella

The new bus station is SO much better Heather. I think I managed only to go in the old one once but it was horrible - I’m not easily scared but was scared there. I hope the photos go some way to making up for you not being able to see all the developments for yourself. If there’s anything you’d like to see a picture of just let me know :o)

I love Wagamama too Antonella, just wish it was a bit cheaper :) I’ve had an email back saying I’m on a waiting list as there are no 2009 dates yet but they have also passed on the message to see if there’s any chance of a private visit. I will definitely keep everyone updated. I still want to have a boat trip down the river too, but maybe both would be better when the weather is a little better. We’ll see…
