October 22, 2007 - From the plane

This was my first view of Newcastle, so I deemed it appropriate to post this as my first photograph to share with you all. Most flights take a route along the River Tyne, going out over the coast, and then heading back inland to the runway. If you travel to Whitley Bay, you can watch the planes come in and follow this route, dipping sideways and giving a great view of St. Mary’s lighthouse. If you look closely at the middle of the photograph, you can see the Sage Gateshead and the Tyne Bridges.

Hi, I’m Cassandra. I’ve been around the last 8 or 9 months or so. I think i’ve posted as C. Ann before, if that helps to give you a clue. I’m a student at Newcastle Uni, and i’ve fallen in love with this city! I hope I can live up to the standard that Chris has set.

Please let me know of any requests or locations you’d like to see photographed here, and let’s all wish Chris a good break.

P.S. Please forgive the quality, as this was taken just after sunrise through a scratchy plane window :)

Amazing, I’ve lived here all my life and never seen the river from that angle, I don’t mind flying but I can’t look out the window! Excellent capture.
It’ll be nice to see Newcastle from the prospective of somebody new to it. Where are you from?
Hope you enjoy and have fun with this. Good Luck and Welcome.

I never realised the Tyne meandered quite so much; I always thought it was a fairly straight run down to the sea from Newcastle.

Hi Heva. I’m from the states, Michigan in particular. Thanks for the welcome!

Denton suggested you would be interested in a tattoo photo. Now that I saw your photo, I recall that you have plenty of them. I’ve posted a tattoo photo of a friend that I work with. He is hoping to get on the television show Miami Ink. Stop by for a look.

Thank goodness someone is going to provide me with my daily fix. I’m living in (and not enjoying) Australia, so these pictures are a wonderful reminder of home.
