This magnificent statue of Neptune welcomes you to the civic centre. As you can see he pours water on to himself and it drips down him and the wall. The reason for Neptune is due to Newcastle’s long history with the sea. A LONGER VIEW is here.

I like the way the rust works with the piece as a whole . It reminds of a bloody crucifix or something.

At one time there used to be a plaque which read ‘TYNE ‘THE WATER GOD .It has either a bronze or copper coating , which , when it comes in to constant contact with water turns green (ie his hair )
