I can’t believe I’ve not shared a picture of the Millennium Bridge yet! Anyway, here’s one taken last Saturday when all those kids were down for the Evolution Festival. If you look closely, you can see the bajillion or so people crossing.

It’s not black and white though. It’s coloured, the sun just makes it look black and white because it’s so bright. The only editing I’ve done is to change the size.
Mike - I’ve never entered any of my photo’s to places. I didn’t think they were good enough.
Babooshka - I should get paid by them for the number of times someone has asked me how I like Newcastle! I’d be a rich bugger instead of a skint student!

I think they call it “tilting” when the bridge opens to let the boats go under - it tilts so it looks like a V shape from the side. The Council decided it would be better if there was a fixed time everyday so vistors and locals could watch it open rather than trying to catch the rare times boats need to go under. Today might be a very good day to go as it’s a beautiful sunny day :)

Sue - That’s a really good idea, to tilt it at a set time. I’ve always wanted to see it tilted but since I live a thirty minute walk away I could never make it down in time when a friend who lives down by the quayside said it was tilted.

Did you manage to get down on Sunday Cassandra? I checked the Gateshead Council website this a.m. - yes I was supposed to be working! - and they had Tilt Times for Friday and Saturday evenings in case anyone else is hard at work at lunchtime. If anyone outside the UK is reading this and wants to see what the world’s first and only tilting bridge looks like (You can tell I think it’s fab can’t you!) there’s a couple of videos on YouTube.

In my defence :) it does say “TiltTimes” on the Millemium Bridge website and they do describe it as tilting - but whether it tilts or blinks or stays completely still you have to admit it is a stunningly besutiful piece of engineering.
