This street is behind the station, above the Quayside. I had no idea it existed until D and I went exploring one day. It was really quiet down there.

Never noticed this street myself. Thanks for your daily photos, it’s one of the highlights in my greader RSS feed
Hanover Street if my memory serves me right. After living in Norfolk for five years I returned to the North East to work at the Fed Brewery. In my time in the South I rarely bothered to lock the car. One day I parked at the top of Hanover Street as the small brewery car park was full and left it unlocked. When I came out the radio had gone. At least they didn’t take the car. I am glad to see they haven’t covered the cobble stones. I presume those nondescript grey buildings on the left are flats, sorry, luxury apartments.
I worked on Hanover Street for many years, in the famous Bonded Warehouse there (called 40/50/60 Bond) owned by “Newcastle Warehousing Company” until March 1982, when they moved out.
Essentially the curved ‘modern flats’ that you see on the left of the photo are (about 40% of them) situated within the old Bonded Warehouse building. Sadly, in between 1982 and about 2005, there were three large (strange) fires there, and the remaining 60% of the building is a re-construction.
In the latter days of the building as a Bond, it was quite amazing seeing big articulated trucks trying to get up and down Hanover street, and of course all the cases of wines and spirits had to be individually ‘handballed’ (as the called it) into the warehouse, as forklift trucks could only be used at the very bottom of the building (60 Bond) loading from The Close, rather than Hanover Street.
We have discussed it on Skyscraper City, but the best site to see about this building, is this one . . .

I have to say, I have many happy memories of my years working there!!
Actually, I posted the wrong LINK in my post above.
The link (about Hanover Street) that I gave is a good one . . . but this next one, is MUCH BETTER!!
