This entrance to Eldon Square is where the George and Dragon pub used to be. Now this is St George’s Way, which has Starbucks, Nandos, a card shop called Serendipity (I think), and Waitrose. If you go up the escalators outside Waitrose you will find yourself on Hotspur Way, between Boots and John Lewis.
St Andrew’s Way will be opening soon - and Debenhams will open in 11 days.

The pub’s gone? Yoink.
I remember going in there when I was 17. There were four of us and the only one they wouldn’t serve was Jon - the only 18 year old in the group.
The hubby reckons it hasn’t been there in all the time we’ve been together. Which is a decade.
So it’s been a while……….!
In a pub in Sunderland once (I know what you’re going to say, serves me right for going to Sunderland) a 17 year old got served, I got served (at the time I was 19)… and the 30 year old with us got knocked back. She was very tempted to point at the 17 year old and go ‘BUT YOU SERVED HIM AND HE’S UNDERAGE!!!’ but decided it would go down badly. So she had a coke.
Ah, memories… :)
Another memory jogger! I had completely forgotten about the George and Dragon, and I was in that Starbucks just a few weeks ago.
The Northumberland Arms is the pub I always associate with Eldon Square.
Yeah it was Ok the G&D, and I had forgotten about it too - so thanks. And nice shot!
I can vaguely remember the George and Dragon but I don’t think I was ever in it. I don’t think I have ever forgiven Eldon Square shopping centre for taking away one side of old Eldon Square. The result is not pretty is it? I do remember one pub that was built in the early days of the shopping centre and that was Cordwainers. It was a rather pleasant place even for an old codger like me who hates anything modern. Does anyone remember it? I seem to remember the main entrance was on Nelson Street. PJF mentions the Northumberland Arms, I can remember it when it had a gentlemen only bar and it was one of my favourite pubs but not necessarily for that reason.
