This building used to be the Borough Theatre. It was built in 1909 and used as a theatre, then converted to a cinema, then a bingo hall, then an amusement arcade. It’s been closed and empty since 2005.
Now it’s just home to the pigeons.
There is an old pic of the place here, and - even better - recent pics of the inside.

Central Buildings, Wallsend. Built 1903.

This is Wallsend’s Town Hall, which celebrated its centenary 18 months ago. I’ll have to try and get to it on the next Heritage Open Days.

Also, I’ve been chatting more on the facebook fan page. If you’re on facebook, do become a fan! You can suggest things you’d like to see pictured as well as discuss the perennial ‘how far outside Newcastle should this blog feature’ question. I’m happy to receive requests by email obviously - burningthepast at gmail dot com - or in the comments, as well.

This funeral parlour caught my eye… I think I’ve seen a picture of it posted somewhere before, but unfortunately I can’t remember where to credit it. If you know please let me know!
