Thank you so much for all your kind words. It’s overwhelming (in a good way) to read all the comments - so many people have taken the time to send their best wishes.
I’m going to post the next week or so with no supporting words or comments, but I do want to keep posting - holding onto normality, I guess. Please do talk in the comments though - I’ll feel even more strange if this place goes quiet. I love the chat that goes on round here.

Yeah this is a funny little place isn’t it? I think it used to be called Anthony Amos - a shoe shop. It stands cheek-by-jowl with that enormous building with Vision Express in it (which itself has been lots of things in the past!)

Dave, it was Amos Atkinson and remained so until at least 1976 but I am not certain when Moss Bros took it over. It does look odd between all those monsters but I like it.
This is one of my favorite buildings so wonderfully ornate.
I have never been inside but always admired that bright white exterior it when it came into view.
These pictures constantly amaze me! There are so many interesting buildings and places around Newcastle that I never noticed in all the years I lived there. Maybe it’s time to schedule a return visit.
Never noticed this before, although I’ve been inside the shop more than once! When you are always in a hurry like me you end up missing out on something all the time. Big hugs. A.
Update: Amos Atkinson had the shop from 1892 until 1990 and Moss Bros took it over the following year. The ornate plaster work was apparently done for the Queen’s coronation in 1953.
I love this building. Beautiful. I remember walking by it on almost a daily basis when I lived there. Sweet memories. That’s it! I need to move back!! lol
Firstly, what can I say that hasn’t already been said..? Just hope you are coping with the moment right now. What I CAN say is that your site has proved to be a wonderful find for me, albeit, admittedly, in a total accidental way - I seem to have forgotten the precise details. Such great pictures and images of a city I have grown to really like. Having grown up in the Durham area, lived in Manchester for the best part of a decade, and then moved back up, I find this site not only shows me places I have just not noticed before, but also different perspectives on the places I have. Oh, and I quite like the banter too. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for that Alf! I’m amazed that it was Amos Atkinson for so long, and that’s a great bit of info about the work for the Coronation!
Great comments on here as ever.
Thank you all for commenting. It does help. I’m very up and down at the mo but I suppose that’s to be expected. All the comments and support really do help.
Glad you like the building and pic! It’s strangely placed - that Vision express building is awful! - but it’s a gem worth looking up for.
Alf, thanks for sharing that snippet about the plaster work being for the Queen’s coronation - I never would have wondered if it was done for a specific reason. Thanks.
It’s the hormones as well, Beth, believe me. A lot of it is chemical, when they are all gone you will feel better. Big hugs. Ciao. A.
