A few of you have been asking for photos of where I am now so here you go. This week will be all about comparing and contrasting Newcastle and Michigan.
I tend to take a lot of photos from airplanes because it just looks so darn awesome. The first one is a repost of an aerial view of Newcastle/Gateshead. If you look closely at the middle you can see the bridges and the Sage.

This next one is an aerial of the Port Huron area of Michigan. I live about half an hour’s drive from here. It’s the largest city nearest to us for major shopping.

Lets all wish Beth a happy and quick recovery, too!

Hi Cassandra!
Great aerial photo’s of both waterways. The river Tyne shot is just super the way you captured the river spilling into the sea. Lake Michigan, Land Of A Thousand Lakes, right? I don’t know the back story of why you are living in beautiful Michigan but I’m sure you are enjoying yourself!
My Bad! Minnesota is the Land Of 10,000 lakes…..got it all wrong, yikes!
Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario, they form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth
Welcome back Cassandra and hope you are enjoying your ‘half an hour away from Michagan. Do we get to see a picture of the ‘half an hour’ away place of residence?
I was invited onto the USS Huron when she visited the Tyne on a NATO exercise. We (that is some of the Crew and ourselves left after about half an hour - and went onto a Dutch ship, where the Huron crew had provided the food and booze as their ship was dry.
Ash, Michigan’s State motto is “Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice.” (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.) There are a ton of lakes around though. My home state is Michigan, I was in Newcastle for a year to get my masters degree and now i’m back “home”. My heart will always be in Newcastle!
The Newcastle shot was taken just a minute or two after takeoff. For the Michigan shot, we had been in the air for a good twenty minutes and were significantly higher up.
Mrs K, If the plane had flown over my itty bitty town, I would have got a shot of it! It would have been just squares of agricultural land… this one is more dynamic, don’t you think? There will be more photos this week to give you a better look at where I live. :)
Going to school in Newcastle….Congratulations on your master degree..quite an accomplishmet!
I grew up between living in California and Newcastle all my childhood (parents are/were Geordies) although now I am full time in Ca. …quite a difference eh? Both countries wonderful for different reasons both unique to themselves. What a a fabulous experience to live in another country for a time, especially one that makes you feel so welcome like the people of The North!
Thank you Ash! I completely agree about the people of The North!
