There’s not one but two cathedrals in Newcastle. St Nicholas is the main one, but there is also the Cathedral Church of St Mary. Both are near Central Station, but St Mary’s is closer - if you leave the station and look left you will see it. It’s near the Centre for Life.

A wonderful area filled with lavish flower pots and a beautiful, historic cathedral! Heavenly! Wish I could explore that area!
Nice shot, Beth, but how long did you have to wait for a gap in the traffic? It’s always clogged up with buses blocking the view when I go that way. I see you have managed to sneak another statue in, of Basil Hume this time. Out of sight is a beatiful little garden dedicated to his memory.
The municipal flowers are much better than those in North Tyneside. They really lift the view.
I have renamed the square “Greggs Square” as it is well used by folk eating lunch from the nearby bakers.
Lovely shot - nice and clear. You know that it’s the Catholic cathedral don’t you, hence their being two.
Leif, it is a nice area. Good pubs there too! :)
Alf - I was lucky for once, just point and shoot with no traffic. I didn’t know about the garden, will have to find it sometime! I’ve only been in there once, after the old Pope died. I snuck in with a friend from work at lunchtime.
hectoria - I’ve seen some nice flowers in North Tyneside, but Newcastle’s really do take the cake. The ones on Jesmond Road, the town side of the Cradlewell bypass, are amazing - no need for them, but they really brighten up the road.
Dave, I can’t believe I didn’t mention that! I was brought up Catholic. I believe that any time there are two cathedrals one is catholic one CofE or similar.
