The Newcastle University Students Union Building.
The building is actually owned by the Students Union, which is rare in the UK. It was built in the 1920s using a donation from an anonymous donor. I used to use the Post Office desk in there regularly when I worked at the University, but unfortunately it’s closed now.
Information can be found on Wikipedia or on the Students Union website. Great building, isn’t it?

Egads! How many nights did I spend in there in the eighties!
I love that building! I took Irish dancing lessons there!
That’s sad that the postie was closed there. I signed the petition to keep it.
I hope they are good memories Rachel :) I spent quite some time there in the 1990s! Sitting in the corner of what was then known as the Mens bar… Mens Agitat Molem apparently, not a bar for men. The main section of the bar was normally full of hard-drinking agrics, but the corner we took over was full of goths and metalheads. I miss it!
It’s a great building Cassandra. I was sad too when the post office shut.
It is indeed a superb building.
When I drive into town, I try and park on that road next to the Exhibition Park and walk in past here.
Maybe it’s just me, but the red brick university building seems more reminiscent of American college buildings at Harvard or the kind one would see in the opening sequence (flyover, of course) of a Hollywood college movie.
Charming union building though! =)
Good plan Dave!
I’ll have to post some more pics of uni buildings Jani - it fits in pretty well.
