The front entrance to the quadrangle on the campus of Newcastle Uni is through these arches.
The tower and building above were erected in 1911 in honur of King Edward VII and his statue still looks out over the campus today. The notice boards within the arches contain university notices, exam timetables and results (undergraduate only)!

Wow!
It’s a few years since I walked under that arch daily :)
That is such a fabulous entryway! I’m so envious. The university where I work (and studied) is turning 150 years old this year but because of WWII, nothing remains of the beautiful old campus. This campus we have now is only a little more than 50 years old. No really interesting architecture, except for the church which is very modern.
Great pair of photos Cassandra :)
Great photos of some of the finest architecture in Newcastle
Great photos, Cassandra. I would have liked to go to Uni in building like this. Which Uni is this? I seem to remember that there are two universities in Newcastle, aren’t there? Ciao. Antonella
This is Newcastle Uni, Antonella. It’s a lot older than Northumbria University, which used to be a polytechnic until the 1990s.
Oh, and don’t worry, not everything on Newcastle campus is as beautiful as the Arches. But there are a few gems indeed, most of them around the Quadrangle (a square shaped garden behind these Arches). Cassandra, didn’t you post a picture of the Quadrangle some time ago?
I am hoping to do a Study Abroad program at this University this summer. I can’t wait!
This was my favourite scene in the University. I loved every single minute I spent there, although the start was realy hard. I miss Newcastle a lot. I hope I will be able to go back there soon.
