When we were kids in the 50s, my parents would take us to the Theatre Royal to see pantos. They were wonderful!! We’d all get excited and scared and be shouting “Look behind you!!” as the villain crept up to surprise the hero. The really high up seats were called “the gods” and they were definitely the less expensive option for many families.
I wonder how many Theatre Royals there are about the country. There’s one in York, and one in Bury St Edmunds where I used to live, too!
