July 22, 2008 - River Tyne from Metro Bridge

River Tyne from Metro Bridge, newcastle, uk

After many attempts, I’ve finally managed to get a shot of the Tyne from the Queen Elizabeth II Metro Bridge (those darn supports kept getting in the way!). I’ve seen plenty of shots from between the Tyne Bridge and the Millennium Bridge, so this is a refreshing new perspective for me! Please excuse the glare bits and the dirty spots on the window. We love our Metro, dirt and all!

Ooooh I like. and now i have an idea that you spent a day getting on at Central, travelling to Gateshead, not getting a good shot, getting off and changing platforms at Gateshead, missing the shot, getting off and changing platforms at Central, all the while getting more annoyed….

This is probably not what happened but keeps me amused :)

If you take the River Trip - boat starts near the Piano and Pitcher. The boat goes up river first - so the Blinking Bridge opens - then the Swing Opens and then you turn round in the river just past the Copthorne Hotel.

Then you come back down river - all the way to the mouth - but the photo opportunities on that trip are great.

Underneath the Blinking Bridge with Arch above your - Swing opening and closing - downriver from Copthorne turn.

You will have a field day.

You’re on, B! Name the date! The shooting didn’t quite happen as you described, but i’ll let you have your amusements!

Thanks babooska!

Mrs K - How much fun would it be to have a Newcastle Daily Photo meetup and take a river cruise! ?

It would be lovely Cassandra, but unfortunately I am 90% housebound now due to a little known but widespread illness that has no known cause or cure. Wheelchairs just do not suit the river boats. But I did the trip many times with visitors from all over the world and they were always most impressed and I never ever tired of it.

There were two trips mind you - one going to the mouth (which is the best one) and one going upstream to Ryton Willows which is also good and brought many happy memories back to me.

I do so hope you all take the trip and raise a glass or two and think of absent blogger visitors.
