May 13, 2008 - Tyne God back on

tyne God back on - Newcastle, UK

I know this has been featured before, but I wanted to let you know that the city turns the Tyne God off during the winter so the ice doesn’t break it but it’s back on now. And it’s still my favourite thing in Newcastle!

What’s your favourite thing/place?

Wow, quite by chance - I just did my ten favourite things about Newcastle. I shall edit and link back.

Hardly been in the country let alone the Toon for 2 years, but for me it’s still the same as number 1 on OurMan’s list - St James’ Park. From ye olde days when I lived in Gateshead and could see it over the valley - and *hear* the concerts; to the newer structure which definitely rates it as one of the best-looking footie grounds in the country. And as OM says - the location. Right on the edge of the city centre, not in some council estate or redeveloped out-of-town shopping precinct.

I remember this. As a child I would insist, on our annual trip to my grandparents’ in benwell, that we stop off to see Neptune and the swans at the civic centre. I ould have been about 10 in the early seventies. Do the bells still chime?
