If you’ve been in Haymarket Metro station recently, it’s in the middle of some massive renovations. The middle manual steps have been sectioned off, making the long decent on the escalator an interesting experience.

Hi Cass, I like the perspective lines in this photo, works well! That is one steep escalator!
It still looks better than any London tube station, and you can breathe fresh air too, Ha!
Here is a web page that they have on the development:-

Oh yeah, before I forget, take a look at this escalator in the tyne tunnel if you thought the haymarket
one was long.

Reputed to be the longest wooden one in the UK. Grade II listed structure.

Mike - Holy cow, what station is that in?
Mike said,
The Tyne Tunnel is a tunnel which crosses under the tyne from North Tyneside to South Tyneside.
There is a main tunnel for Vehicles (toll charged), and there is pedestrian and cyclist tunnels of which the escalator above leads to. I’ve only been through the vehicle tunnel in a car, never used the other tunnels. But I knew I had seen an escalator that was extraordinarily steep that was something to do with the tunnels.
I found this offical site for the tyne tunnels:

Click on the pedestrian and cyclist tunnels link at the top, and there is a location link of the left, and then a PDF document.
