B, of Watching Geordie Life ( http://watchinggeordielife.blogspot.com ) suggested a great cafe awhile ago, The Sky Cafe, and now I wanted to share my new favourite place with you guys: Heaton Perk! Every time i’ve walked by it, i’ve longed to go inside because it looked so cosy and inviting. I’ve been writing a lot more recently because several big projects are coming up and i’ve needed to get out of the house a bit and Heaton Perk was my first thought. What a gem i’ve found! They play really nice music, have convenient hours (9-5 or so, usually), and serve the best root beer floats outside the USA. (I also hear they do amazing coke floats for those of you who think that’s a yummy thing…) The owner is a super nice lady who was thrilled to make it for the first time for me, and I fear I might become the “root beer float girl” because they are very yummy and addicting! The prices are amazing, too. £1.50 for a latte, £2 for the float, and everything else is just as nice! They serve amazing looking cakes and sandwiches, too. I can’t say enough good things about this place!
From their myspace ( http://www.myspace.com/heatonperk )
“Heaton Perk is a coffee shop on Heaton Park Road (we’re next door to Ray’s barber shop). We sell beautiful coffees, teas and cold drinks. We also get a daily delivery of Dene’s Deli’s scrummy sandwiches and have a range of sweets and cakes. We haven’t been open for long, but have already built up a great reputation in the area. Everything we sell is priced fairly (we’re no Starbucks) and we welcome ANYBODY. Hope to see you all soon! xx”
Oh, and they are very soon going to be opening at 8a to serve the breakfast crowd with yummy breakfast-ish things!
I feel a bit foolish writing so much about this place, but I love it so much! So go check them out!

that’s a little out of the way for me, but damn it sounds good. i might have to make a detour there one day :)
Wow, what a fantastically cosy-looking place! I would love to spend a couple of hours there daily reading or writing. The coffee shops are fantastic in New Zealand, but I’ve yet to come across one that’s as cosy and inviting as the one in your photo.
mmm… food… one of my favourite topics…
That’s looks like a nice and cosy cafe, never seen one with books in it before!
Cafe La Boca near where the old library used to be in town, has local art work hanging on the walls which you can actually buy!
Also, I went to Cafe Royal in town last week, expensive, but it was heaving! and had all the cakes you can dream of!
Mike.
Mike - I didn’t mention that all those books you see; you can buy! Or even trade like-for-like if you want! it’s perfect!
I used to work in Heaton, about , 6 years ago. It has certainly changed. That’s avery cosmopolitan looking place, i’d love to have had my lunch hour there.
If you were to build a tunnel to Scotland from Belfast, and a high speed rail network down to Newcastle, I would defiantly have a cuppa.
