Cassandra you timed it just right, for a metro theme!

The 60th Metro station, proudly opening on 17 March (that’s tomorrow!).

The £3.2m project, with the European Regional Development Fund giving £800,000, will offer the residents of Simonside five trains an hour in each direction - towards South Shields and Newcastle and Gateshead.

Simonside will be the 60th station to open on the Tyne and Wear Metro network, which is now almost 28 years-old. The opening of Simonside comes just over two years after Nexus opened a new Metro station at Northumberland Park, on North Tyneside, which has been used by more than a million passengers.

Mike.

Yes Mike, and also, everyone who take a ride on the metro tomorrow gets a free pint of Guinness!

Where is everybody?

Maybe late at night?

Haha, no, not late at night. This was heading out of the city at about 10pm when everyone else was heading into the city. There were four of us in that compartment, just behind the camera.

I used to live in Whickham and catch the metro to Heaton from the centre of Newcastle and it was always full. I have never, ever seen it like this.

Great image of Newcastele and around.
