December 1, 2007 - Fenwick Window 1

Fenwick Window, Newcastle, UK

In honour of the first day of December, I give you a shot of Fenwick’s Christmas window! Every hour of every day there are loads of people standing around it, looking in, and sometimes there’s even a queue around the corner to get a chance to walk along it and see the sights. There’s a song playing on repeat outside, featuring local children, and this song gets stuck in my head allllll the time!

If anyone else gets a chance to see it, my favourite line in the song is when a girl yells “The cats are singing, mama! It’s Christmas!” I just crack up!

What a festive Christmas window, I’m sure the kids love it.

You have just reminded me, it’s time to take the kids to Newcastel just to squeeze in at Fenwicks window!

This scene reminds me of Bagpuss, with all the mice singing “we can fix it”.

A shame about the reflection from Smiths opposite.

Brilliant Photo!! Seeing Fenwicks windows has always been a special part of Christmas. Loved to take the kids there to discover each years story. Most memorable was a visit one Christmas Day, about 3.00pm, when there were so many visitors, we had to join a big queue. No shops open, just kids, young and old, being enchanted, courtesy of Fenwicks. A must see. Thanks.

I was one of the people that recorded the song. It is the people from the Eve Trew C.A.T.S school and we do music, dance and drama. The song was really fun to do.

I always LOVED Fenwicks Christmas window displays. Alas they seem to be a thing of the past over here in the usa except at some of the major dept stores in New York and a few others.

Joseph, that’s awesome that you helped record it! Any idea where we can get a copy of it?
