jesmond metro (4)redo.jpg

Outside(at the back) of Jesmond Metro is this intriguing sight. The arch is obviously very old but the cones are modern. There is no explanation there.

A nice sculpture. The arch looks very old, like it could fall if you touch it.

comme cela on pourrait penser a des pieces d’un jeu d’echec. en effet c’est assez surprenant cet difference entre moderne et ancien

as that one could think has parts of a play of failure. indeed it is enough surprising this difference between modern and old

Ad, you frighten me. It reminds me of the tribe leader on Crash Bandicoot wearing gravity defying ear rings - which isn’t strange at all.

Hi. The arch in the centre does look like a Jester’s cap. My grandmother Doris May Phillips was, I believe, connected with a theatrical group known as a the Jesmond Jesters. I note also that during WW1 there was a troops’ concert party called the Jesmond Jesters. Not sure how close the connection between these two, however I do have some cuttings of reviews of WW1 concerts on the home front in which my grandmother performed from 1916 onwards - generally these concerts were to raise money for comforts for the troops. So far as the more modern looking spikes are concerned, I seem to remember they have older pieces of carving on the end, and they are not all the same, I think several have shell patterns on them but not all do. Does anyone know the origin of these pieces or who made the modern arrangement?
